- Food Support - 

SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Program assistance is a county-run,
federal program
administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture that
helps
Minnesotans with low incomes get the food that's needed for sound nutrition

and well-balanced meals. The program issues electronic food support benefits

that can be used to purchase allowable food items from participating grocers.

If you are approved for SNAP, you can use your benefits at many stores, farmer’s markets and senior dining sites.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

To apply for SNAP only, and all household members are over age 60,  Click Here  If you are age 60 or over you may also be eligible for NAPS (also known as the food box). You can also get a CAF from your local county office or from the Minnesota Department of Human Services Web site. You can mail the application to:

 

 

 

 

 



The CAF is the application counties require you to complete to apply for SNAP and Cash Assistance.
When your benefits begin, depends on the date the county receives the first page of the application or date
submitted using MNbenefits or fax received. If you are not able to go to your county office for an interview,
you may request a phone interview.

Nutrition Sites: Congregate Dining and Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels)

Meal service is available to anyone age 60 or over. The spouse of an eligible diner may participate in the program regardless of age. Diners are given the opportunity to confidentially contribute toward the cost of the meal. Contribution guidelines are posted at the nutrition sites. A hot, well balanced mid- day meal Monday through Friday. Special diets to meet health needs: diabetic/low salt/ low cholesterol.

You do not need to be a senior to utilize the food shelves.

Pope County

Hearts & Hands Food Shelf: 320-634-3408

  • Hours: Monday and Wednesday
    2:30pm to 4:30pm, Tuesday 4:30pm to 6:30pm

  • Must be a resident of Pope County

  • Visits limited to once per month, although exceptions can
    be made for a specific emergency or situation

Grant County Food Shelf: 218-685-4176

  • 1311 Hwy 79 E Elbow Lake MN,
    (Located in the Elbow Lake Public Utilities Building)

  • Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am-11am

  • Photo ID is required to pick up food items

 

Hoffman Food Shelf: 320-986-2598

  • 100 3rd Street Hoffman MN

  • Available to those who live in Hoffman, Herman or Kensington

  • Hours: Tuesdays 11am-1pm and Thursdays 5pm-6:30pm

  • Photo ID is required; as well as copy of utility bill to show city of residency at original time of application
